22 iconic shots from the ’70s when The Stones rolled into Leicester

The long hot summer of 1976 had still to come over the horizon but The Rolling Stones gave a blistering performance at Leicester’s Granby halls, one of two sell out gigs on their Black and Blue Tour.

These pictures, hidden in the Mirrorpix archive by photographer Dick Williams, show the band in their prime and obviously enjoying every moment along with the packed audience at the former city centre venue.

The band kicked of their set with Honky Tonk Woman and went on to wow the throng with a monumental barrage of 19 songs including Get Off my Cloud, You Can’t Always Get What You Want, It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll (But I Like It), Brown Sugar, Jumpin’ Jack Flash and finishing the night with Street Fighting Man.

Maybe you were at one of the Leicester gigs… if so please pop your memories in the comments section we would love to hear them!
