70 coronavirus cases confirmed since yesterday – here’s where

Some 70 coronavirus cases have been confirmed across the city and county in the latest 24-hour reporting period.

The majority – 24 – were in the city, with the remaining 46 being added to tolls in county areas.

Leicester’s increase means there have now been more than 7,000 cases in the city since the start of the pandemic.

More than 100 cases were confirmed in Leicester and Leicestershire yesterday.

Broken down to district and borough level, Blaby had the steepest increase in overall cases with 12 confirmed.

Hinckley and Bosworth recorded another ten cases and Charnwood added nine more positive results to cumulative tolls.

Six more cases were identified in North West Leicestershire, with Harborough adding five new cases.

Both Melton and Oadby and Wigston have added two new cases.

The local figures updated at 4pm on Wednesday, September 30 are:

  • Leicester – 7,017 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 1,980

  • Blaby – 819 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 806

  • Charnwood – 1,196 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 643

  • Harborough – 546 total cases -. Rate per 100,000 population: 582

  • Hinckley and Bosworth – 718 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 634

  • Melton – 261 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 514

  • North West Leicestershire – 431 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 416

  • Oadby and Wigston – 749 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 1,313

Four coronavirus-related fatalities have today been announced by Leicester’s hospitals. One of the patients was aged in their 50s.

Meanwhile, more than 100 cases have been linked to schools in the county, prompting thousands of pupils to self-isolate.

  • Leicester – 6,993 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 1,974

  • Blaby – 807 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 785

  • Charnwood – 1,187 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 638

  • Harborough – 541 total cases -. Rate per 100,000 population: 576

  • Hinckley and Bosworth – 708 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 625

  • Melton – 259 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 505

  • North West Leicestershire – 425 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 410

  • Oadby and Wigston – 747 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 1,310
