Daily Covid-19 infection figures continue to fall

Just over 250 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed across the city and county today.

In Leicester there were 111, another 143 were spread across Leicestershire.

Oadby and Wigston again had the lowest increase, with just 6 cases confirmed.

Melton added 13 new cases to rolling tolls and Blaby 17.

There were 20 new infections identified in Harborough, 25 in Hinckley and Bosworth and 28 in North West Leicestershire.

Charnwood saw the most new cases with 34, its lowest increase in a while.

The new cases, updated today at 4pm, mean that the total number of cases across the city and county since the start of the pandemic area by area are :

  • Leicester: 31,721

  • Blaby: 6,153

  • Charnwood: 10,751

  • Harborough: 4,464

  • Hinckley and Bosworth: 5,251

  • Melton: 2,307

  • North West Leicestershire: 4,974

  • Oadby and Wigston: 4,474

In other coronavirus news, more than 60 coronavirus-related hospital deaths were added to local tolls today.

Meanwhile, tributes have been paid to an American football coach who died after testing positive for Covid.

The latest seven-day infection rates, area by area, are:

  • Leicester: 312.2 cases per 100,000 (1,106 cases in the last seven days)

  • Blaby: 214.7 cases per 100,000 (218)

  • Charnwood: 199.6 cases per 100,000 (371)

  • Harborough: 174.8 cases per 100,000 (164)

  • Hinckley and Bosworth: 205.1 cases per 100,000 (232)

  • Melton: 167.9 cases per 100,000 (86)

  • North West Leicestershire: 196.9 cases per 100,000 (204)

  • Oadby and Wigston: 273.6 cases per 100,000 (156)
