Daily Covid cases: 4 county areas record single-digit increases

Fewer than 200 new Covid cases have been confirmed across the city and county today.

In total there were 195 new infections identified – 84 in Leicester and 111 spread across Leicestershire.

Four of the seven county areas recorded single-digit increases today.

Broken down to district and borough level, Blaby added seven new cases, Harborough eight, Oadby and Wigston also recorded eight and Melton added five.

There were 44 new infections identified in Charnwood and 15 in Hinckley and Bosworth.

North West Leicestershire which has emerged as a bit of a problem area over the past few days added 24 new cases to its overall total.

The new cases, updated today at 4pm, mean that the total number of cases across the city and county since the start of the pandemic area by area are :

  • Leicester: 33,387

  • Blaby: 6,477

  • Charnwood: 11,427

  • Harborough: 4,723

  • Hinckley and Bosworth: 5,569

  • Melton: 2,469

  • North West Leicestershire: 5,389

  • Oadby and Wigston: 4,639

In other coronavirus news, coronavirus rates have risen week-on-week in four parts of Leicestershire.

Meanwhile, city MP Jonathan Ashworth has called on the government to apologise over ‘duff’ PPE.

The latest seven-day infection rates, area by area, are:

  • Leicester: 254.4 cases per 100,000 (901 cases in the last seven days)

  • Blaby: 169.4 cases per 100,000 (172)

  • Charnwood: 203.9 cases per 100,000 (379)

  • Harborough: 150.3 cases per 100,000 (141)

  • Hinckley and Bosworth: 165.3 cases per 100,000 (187)

  • Melton: 103.5 cases per 100,000 (53)

  • North West Leicestershire: 225.8 cases per 100,000 (234)

  • Oadby and Wigston: 170.1 cases per 100,000 (97)
