Tango Libre Leicester is a vibrant, weekly Argentine tango gathering for dancers of all levels — from total beginners to seasoned social dancers. Held every Tuesday evening (launch on 3rd March 2026) at the welcoming Enderby Civic Centre, this event offers the chance to learn, connect, and dance in a relaxed, community-focused setting.
Each evening is structured in two parts. The first hour features two simultaneous classes: one for absolute beginners, taught by Dr Constantina Katsari, and one for improvers, led by Steve Donkin. Whether you’re brand new to tango or looking to refine your skills, you’ll receive expert guidance in a supportive environment. These classes focus on musicality, connection, and improvisation — the heart of social tango.
After the class, the dance floor opens up for freestyle tango and guided practica. From 19:45 to 21:45, dancers are invited to explore the music, practise with others, or simply enjoy the atmosphere. The music is diverse, featuring a mix of traditional Argentine tango, alternative tango, and compatible styles like swing, salsa, blues, kizomba, jive, and bachata. Experienced dancers often mentor newcomers during the freestyle, creating an inclusive space where growth and creativity go hand-in-hand.
Tango Libre Leicester is more than a dance event — it’s part of a broader mission. All proceeds go to BPD UK, a UK-wide mental health charity supporting carers and families of people living with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). By attending, you’re helping fund vital peer-led support groups, educational tools, and crisis resources for those navigating some of the UK’s most complex mental health challenges.
The event is designed to be welcoming and accessible. You don’t need a partner or prior dance experience to take part. People of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend. Tea, coffee, and biscuits are provided, and the focus is always on creating a safe, respectful, and uplifting environment.
Prices are intentionally kept low to support accessibility:
No advance booking is required — simply turn up and pay at the door. Cash is preferred, though BACS is accepted.
The venue is fully accessible and located just outside central Leicester, with free nearby parking and good local bus connections.
Whether you’re discovering tango for the first time or looking for a regular space to dance with a purpose, Tango Libre Leicester offers a unique blend of movement, connection, and community service. Come for the music, stay for the people — and help create something meaningful while you dance.
