Firefighters were called out to a property in a Leicestershire village after the gas main ignited in the early hours of the morning.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service received the call at 3.01am this morning, June 10, with the original call reporting a plant plot being involved at the porch of a property on Windsor Avenue in Groby.
Two fire appliances were sent out to put out the blaze, one from Western Fire Station, and the other from Birstall Fire Station.
Upon arrival, they confirmed that the fire had now ignited the gas main, leading to firefighters calling for an urgent response from Cadent Gas to turn off the gas to the property, and Red Cross Emergency Response to assist with the welfare of the family.
Firefighters were then left having to dampen the surrounding area to stop the property from catching fire while waiting for the Cadent gas team to isolate and extinguish the fire.
Red Cross emergency response provided welfare to the family, with firefighters checking adjoining properties for gas levels and to ensure the fire did not spread.
