Leicestershire swim club to host women-only naturist swimming session

A Leicestershire swimming club is inviting women to strip off for a freeing naked pool session next month. Desford Swim says the women-only event aims to promote body confidence and acceptance in a safe environment.

The session will take place at the group’s base in Desford, near Hinckley as part of International Women’s Day weekend celebrations. Organisers have confirmed female club members will staff the event, with a female lifeguard on duty throughout.

Participants will have access to a 25-metre swimming pool alongside badminton and table tennis facilities. The club says the initiative provides an opportunity for women to experience naturism without judgment.

Club member Carol said: “Swimming without clothes is a wonderfully free feeling, especially after a long winter of being wrapped up indoors in warm clothing.

“But there’s also an important message about giving women a safe space to feel comfortable in their own skin, away from judgement or the unrealistic expectations of the kind of female body ideas we are so often exposed to.”

The club cites research from 2020 by Dr Keon West of Goldsmith’s College, London, which found improvements in body image, self-esteem and life satisfaction among participants in nudity-based activities. Those interested need to book in advance through the Desford Swim website and bring photo ID and a towel.

The free women-only naturist swimming session takes place on Sunday, March 9, from 2.30pm to 3.15pm, with the option to join the regular mixed-gender session immediately afterwards from 3.30pm to 5pm.
