Man in custody on suspicion of attempted murder as tenth arrest made over student halls stabbing

Police have arrested a tenth person in connection with a stabbing at a student party that left a man in hospital.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested today, Wednesday March 2, has been arrested in the Greater London area on suspicion of attempted murder.

It comes after the incident in January at a block of student halls for the University of Leicester.

Leicestershire Police were called to reports of a stabbing at Nixon Court in Putney Road on January 20 at around 11.38pm.

A man in his twenties who sustained a stab wound has since been discharged from hospital.

Police previously arrested eight men between the ages of 18 and 23 on suspicion of attempted murder. A 20-year-old woman has also been arrested on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice. They have all since been released on bail.

The 20-year-old man who was arrested today remains in police custody.

Police cordons were in force near the junction of Welford Road and Putney Road near the new student accomodation following the incident earlier this year.

Leicestershire Police said enquiries into the incident remain ongoing and have urged people who have further information to come forward.

Martyn Riddleston, Chief Operating Officer at the University of Leicester previously said: “The university is currently working with Leicestershire Police regarding an incident that took place at the Nixon Court student accommodation on Thursday 20 January.

“Dedicated support is available for students who have concerns or require assistance – please contact our Student Support Services team directly or email concerned@le.ac.uk.

“We would urge anyone with any information related to the incident that could help the police with their investigation to speak directly to them.”
