Leicester MP Claudia Webbe has said that the city will be subject to tier 2 coronavirus restrictions.
The Leicester East MP tweeted a few minutes ago to confirm the city’s place in the new three-tier structure. which will be officially announced later this afternoon.
She said: “Leicester will be on local alert level two. This means there will be a relaxation on private gardens to the rule of six.”
Ms Webbe added: “This appears to be in line with the Northern and Midlands MP briefing held last week Whilst Leicester #COVID19 cases have increased its been at a slower rate.”
It is understood that pubs and other hospitality businesses will be allowed to open in tier 2 areas.
Restrictions preventing people from meeting in indoor settings, and stopping friends and family from visiting each other’s homes will remain in place for people living in the city.
But, it’s understood people living in Leicester will now be able to meet with others, while observing the rule of six, in parks and gardens,
