New Walk Museum and Art Gallery
New Walk Museum and Art Gallery originated in 1849 when the Literary and Philosophical Society formally presented to the town its various collections, which have grown and developed over the last 160 years into one of the premier museums in the region. A family friendly day out, the galleries include Ancient Egypt, Dinosaurs, Wild Space, The Den gallery for the under 5s, the Victorian art gallery and a modern and contemporary art gallery.
The first floor galleries include World Arts, Picasso Ceramics: The Attenborough Collection and Leicester's internationally renowned collection of German Expressionism.
The museum hosts a range of events from curators' talks to lunchtime concerts. Tours of the museum are also available for groups – please contact the museum for further details. Visit the gift shop to buy a range of exhibition merchandise and contemporary crafts, or pop by the the Costa coffee shop to recharge with free wifi.
