People are ‘panic buying’ haircuts with new lockdown feared

Loo rolls and pasta might be flying off some supermarket shelves – but in Leicester one salon says people are desperately trying to ‘panic buy’ a haircut.

Hair salon owner Sandra Potts has had to turn away customers from DJ’s Groom Room & Sandra May’s Hair Studio who have been trying to get last minute appointments with the threat of a national lockdown looming.

Last night leaked reports were published by national papers suggesting a new nationwide lockdown was set to be announced by the Government.

Boris Johnson is now set to address the nation this afternoon, with a second lockdown feared by many.

Sandra who runs the Cank Street business with her son, DJ, in Leicester city centre, said the phones went “crazy” today as a result.

She fears for the future of the business if they are forced to close again.

She said: “We were already fully booked and trying to slot people it.

“We’ve literally had to say we can’t fit them in today or Monday. We’re just waiting to see what happens.”
