Two teens arrested after police chase car through streets

Two teenagers have been arrested after a police pursuit through the streets of Leicester.

The force helicopter was called in as officers gave chase after a car believed to be linked to crimes in another county failed to stop in Belgrave Road, Leicester, at about 10.20pm yesterday.

Police found the Mazda car abandoned in Ferndown Close in Braunstone Frith, a short time later.

The two teenagers were arrested nearby.

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 10.20pm yesterday (Tuesday 19 January) officers sighted a vehicle linked to crimes committed in another force area in Belgrave Road, Leicester.

“The car, a Mazda, failed to stop for officers and collided with a police vehicle.

“A pursuit was subsequently authorised and the car was found abandoned in Ferndown Close a short time later.

“Two men were located nearby and arrested.

“A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.

“A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted theft, dangerous driving; failing to stop for police and driving while unfit through drugs.

“Both remain in custody and enquiries are ongoing.”
