Unlicensed driver offered police who pulled him over a Cadbury’s Twirl

An unlicensed and uninsured driver pulled over for speeding on the M1 offered police officers a chocolate bar.

Leicestershire Police officers stopped the driver for a chat after clocking him travelling at more than 70mph on the motorway.

The driver, who officers found to have no licence or car insurance went on to offer them a Cadbury’s Twirl.

At 5.18am on Sunday morning the Twitter account for Leicestershire Roads Policing Unit (RPU) posted a picture of the car being seized and wrote: “The driver of this vehicle was going a tad over 70mph on the M1 this evening, so we stopped him for chat.

“He offered us a Twirl. We don’t like being Twirled. We like seizing vehicles when we establish the driver has no licence or insurance.”

The same account posted minutes later about another motorist with a novel excuse given to officers on the same shift.

It said: “Oh the excuses were unreal with this driver tonight. ‘I never knew I had to insure my car, surely I’m covered by the Innocent Act'”.
