Art Exhibition – A Work in Progress

I’m a local artist and am having my first solo exhibition at the Sock Gallery, Loughborough from Thursday 21st April to Saturday 4th June. I won the chance to show my work after my painting Snow Hare was voted People’s Choice in the Sock Gallery Summer Open Exhibition in 2018. Initially my own exhibition was scheduled for May 2020, but due to Covid and lockdown, it is only now becoming a reality! I have been continuing to paint and have a collection of over 70 pieces of work to be viewed. I think that the two-year wait has been useful in terms of quality and quantity!
I have always been interested in art and trained as a graphic designer, but had moved away from graphics to concentrate on illustrating and watercolour painting. My work has been used for books, textiles, ceramics and most recently, for the greetings industry. My work has featured on cards, gift wrap, gift boxes and most paper products worldwide. I have also trained in adult teaching and am running workshops in Loughborough.
In 2018 I had a renewed love of painting on a larger scale and started using acrylics on canvas and board. I began by creating paintings of my most loved places in Cumbria and the Lake District. Winning the People’s Choice at the Sock Gallery Open exhibition gave me more confidence to keep working in this medium, and the chance of a solo exhibition, which was both terrifying and exciting.
All my work is very personal, and I strive to create the beauty I see in landscapes and nature. More recently my work has been looking at the play of light on landscapes, the drama and contrast that it creates. There is also the theme of light breaking through in the dark, which is how I feel about life in general.
The exhibition will show a wide variety of work showing local scenes, Cumbria, and the Lake District. As well as original work there will be a range of printed gifts and greetings cards on sale.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could consider my work as an editorial piece to support the exhibition. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
