Outdoor retailer Millets closes its doors in Leicester city centre

The Leicester branch of outdoor retailer Millets has closed. The shop, in Humberstone Gate, has had its signs removed and the shutters remain down over the front of the store.

Signs have been stuck onto the storefront, confirming the closure. One reads: “This store is now closed. Our nearest outdoor store is Blacks Leicester, 46 High Street, LE1 5YN. Thank you for shopping with us.”

The other adds: “For all your outdoor and camping equipment, please head to our local store which is just up the High Street.”

Millets is part of the Blacks family of stores, which as well as Blacks includes Ultimate Outdoors. All sell outdoor clothing for men, women and children as well as equipment such as tents, rucksacks and camping stoves.

Although customers are being sent to the Leicester branch of Blacks, the future of this store looks uncertain, as it is being advertised to let by chartered surveyors Wright Silverwood. According to the details, the property available comprises “a two-storey unit with ground floor retail space and further sales area at first-floor level together with storage accommodation.”

LeicestershireLive has contacted Blacks for a comment regarding the Leicester stores.
