Free celebrations to mark town’s 2024 Pride festival this weekend

Hinckley’s annual Pride festival is set to take place this weekend. The free event will include live performances, family-friendly activities and a craft market to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.

The free festival on Saturday (August 24) marks the town’s second annual Pride event, with its aim to be a “colorful celebration of love, diversity, and community spirit.” Proceedings at Hollycroft Park will follow a march through Hinckley and see things kick off in style courtesy of the Never B’s who will invite parkgoers to sing along to classic hits.

Other performances include drag queen Ken Lambert and local talent Jessica Clarke-Wheatly. There will also be music tributes to legends like Rick Astley, Kylie Minogue, and Freddie Mercury, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

The day’s Pride celebrations begin at 12pm with a march beginning at Hinckley’s Argents Mead. It will then move along Church Walk, Castle Street towards Market Place. Upon reaching Market Place, the march will proceed towards The Borough, continuing to the junction of Lower Bond Street, Trinity Lane Upper Bond Street, and Hollycroft.

The march will end at Hollycroft Park, where the main event will take place until 6pm. Road closures will be in place along the route while the march takes place.

Celebrations will continue into the night with an after-party at the Electric Chapel, Hinckley’s first and only LGBTQ+ bar, which opened its doors last year. The entire event, including the after-party, is free to attend.
